Abstract
The study investigated the impact of health and safety practices on employee performance. The study focused on three independent variables – health and safety training, working conditions, and safety procedures and risk management – and measured their influence on employee performance. The study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive study design. This study was conducted at Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) in Mwanza which is termed as the study area while the employees of the company were termed as the study population. The simple random sampling method was used to select the sample, with a total of 72 samples successfully responding to the questionnaires used to collect data in this study. The quantitative data collected through the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and ANOVA. The results showed that the independent variables of the study, including health and safety training, working conditions and safety procedures, and risk management, had a positive and significant impact on employee performance. The study therefore concludes that health and safety measures are important and should be applied because of their enormous contribution to employee performance. It is recommended that emphasis be placed on conducting regular training on health and safety practices in the workplace, improving and maintaining safe working conditions and taking disciplinary action for breaches of safety rules among employees.
