Abstract

This paper assessed the level of heavy metals accumulation in soils and maize of Abaji area council. The objectives of the study were to determine the relationship between heavy metals concentration in soil and maize, to determine the soil physicochemical parameters and also to compare the concentration with the WHO permissible limit in soil and in maize. The method of Association of Analytical Chemist (AOAC) was used to analyse the soil physicochemical parameters while Atomic absorption spectrophotometer was use to analysed the heavy metal concentration in soil and maize. The result revealed that the soil and maize planted in Abaji area council were not contaminated with heavy metals. The soil physicochemical parameters were within the range with sandy soil, low organic matter, electrical conductivity and moisture content.
