Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between organizational internal climate and employee commitment in study of selected commercial banks in Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study are to ascertain effect of the measures of organizational internal climate namely; Employee Communication (EC), Organizational Innovation Climate (OIC), Rewards and Recognition Systems (RRS), and Work-Life Balance Initiatives (WBI) on Employee Commitment (Emp. C).  The survey research design was adopted in this study. The total target population was one hundred three (103) employees of selected commercial banks in Abraka, Delta State. Data was collected using semi-structured questionnaire which is made of close-ended questions. The findings revealed that there is significant positive relationship between employee communication and employee commitment  (0.035<0.05); there is a significant positive relationship between organizational innovation climate and employee commitment (0.001<0.05); there is a significant positive relationship between rewards and recognition systems and employee commitment  (0.024<0.05); work-life balance initiatives has a negative effect with employee commitment which is evident with the p-value (0.002<0.05). Based on the findings, the study concludes that, organizational internal climate has a positive and significant effect on employee commitment in selected commercial banks in Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria. The study recommends that commercial banks should focus on creating a positive work environment through open communication, team-building activities, and supportive management practices to boost employee commitment.
