Abstract
The investigation focuses on the evaluation of government investments and participation in tourism development in Cross River State Nigeria. Secondary data were obtained from the State Tourism Bureau from 2010 to 2020.The data depicts Cross River State’s yearly budgetary allocation for tourism development. The obtained data was analyzed using simple percentages. The hypothesis was tested using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). For the analysis, the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 20 software was used. The hypothesis that there is no statistically significant difference in government investment in the tourism sector from 2010 to 2020. The findings show that there is no statistically significant difference in the government’s investment in the operations and activities of the Cross River Tourism Bureau from 2010 to 2017 (P =0.514 > 0.5). The scenario was similar for government investment in Cross River State Carnival Commission (P = .854 > 0.05) and Marina/Tinapa International (P = .400 > 0.05). Only government in Cross River State Commission showed to have statistically significant difference (P = .037 < 0.05). based on these results, the null hypothesis was sustained that there is no significant difference in governments investment in the tourism sector from the year 2010 to 2017.
